CBS, on the strength of its comedies and CSI: Miami (the nights highest rated show), took the top spot among households and total viewers, while Fox barely nudged ahead among the key adults 18-49 demographic.

CBS finished in first place for the evening with a 9.4/14 household rating and 14.60 million total viewers, but was second among adults 18-49 with a 4.9/12 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 9.6/15 HH rating [#1]
    • 14.93M viewers [#1]
    • 5.0/12 A18-49 rating [#1]
  • 8:00 PM and 8:30 p.m.: How I Met Your Mother (6.3/10 HH rating, 9.81M viewers, 3.6/10 A18-49 rating) and The Class (5.9/9 HH rating, 8.97M viewers, 3.3/8 A18-49 rating) were down from last week’s episodes, which were apparently boosted by extra Super Bowl advertising.
    • Week-to-week numbers (How I Met Your Mother)
      • Households – 6.9/10 to 6.3/10
      • Viewers – 10.78M to 9.81M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.9/10 to 3.6/10
    • Week-to-week numbers (The Class)
      • Households – 6.2/9 to 5.9/9
      • Viewers – 9.72M to 8.97M
      • Adults 18-49 – 3.6/9 to 3.3/8
  • 9:00 PM and 9:30 p.m.: Two and a Half Men (10.1/15 HH rating, 15.62M viewers, 4.9/11 A18-49 rating) was followed by week two of Rules of Engagement (8.7/13 HH rating, 13.50M viewers, 5.0/11 A18-49 rating). Well, this is an interesting situation. Two and a Half Men took a slight dip, but was still strong enough for a first place time-period finish among households and viewers. The interesting aspect for the hour was the great performance for week two freshman comedy Rules of Engagement. Though dipping some among households and viewers, it held very strong among adults 18-49 (down only 4%), as it improved the demo from its lead-in, very unexpected.
    • Week-to-week numbers (Two and a Half Men)
      • Households – 11.3/16 to 10.1/15
      • Viewers – 17.77M to 15.62M
      • Adults 18-49 – 5.8/13 to 4.9/11
    • Week-to-week numbers (Rules of Engagement)
      • Households – 9.8/14 to 8.7/13
      • Viewers – 14.89M to 13.50M
      • Adults 18-49 – 5.2/12 to 5.0/11
  • 10:00 p.m.: CBS then ended the evening with a CSI: Miami (12.7/21 HH rating, 19.85M viewers, 6.4/16 A18-49 rating) which had no problem from its competition, to be the nights most watched and highest rated program across the three main categories.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 11.8/19 to 12.7/21
      • Viewers – 18.20M to 19.85M
      • Adults 18-49 – 5.7/14 to 6.4/16

Fox followed in second place for the evening with a 7.9/12 household rating and 13.41 million total viewers but was able to barely nudge ahead CBS for first among adults 18-49 with a 5.0/12 rating.

  • Last Week:
    • 7.3/11 HH rating [#3]
    • 11.98M viewers [#3]
    • 4.8/12 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • 8:00 p.m.: The first hour of a special two-hour edition of 24 (7.7/12 HH rating, 13.41M viewers, 5.0/12 A18-49 rating) was able to lead the hour for Fox among adults 18-49, improving upon the normal time-period occupant.
    • Week-to-week timeslot numbers (vs. Prison Break):
      • Households – 6.0/9 to 7.7/12
      • Viewers – 10.14M to 13.41M
      • A18-49 – 4.1/10 to 5.0/12
  • 9:00 p.m.: In its regular timeslot, 24 (8.1/12 HH rating, 13.68M viewers, 5.0/12 A18-49 rating) held steady from last week, but was still unable to hold off Heroes.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 8.1/12 to 8.1/12
      • Viewers – 13.58M to 13.68M
      • A18-49 – 5.0/11 to 5.0/12

NBC finished in third place for the evening with a 7.7/12 household rating, 12.43 million total viewers and a 4.6/11 rating among adults 18-49.

  • Last Week:
    • 8.0/12 HH rating [#2]
    • 13.02M viewers [#2]
    • 4.8/12 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • 8:00 p.m.: Deal or No Deal (10.0/15 HH rating, 16.06M viewers, 4.6/12 A18-49 rating) seemed to have been affected a little by the added competition brought from the special hour of 24.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 10.6/15 to 10.0/15
      • Viewers – 17.33M to 16.06M
      • A18-49 – 5.0/12 to 4.6/12
  • 9:00 p.m.: Heroes (8.7/13 HH rating, 14.68M viewers, 6.3/14 A18-49 rating) was mostly even from the week prior, though its reduced A18-49 meant it wasn’t the nights highest rated show in the demo (that honor went to CSI: Miami).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 8.6/12 to 8.7/13
      • Viewers – 14.56M to 14.68M
      • A18-49 – 6.4/15 to 6.3/14
  • 10:00 p.m.: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (4.3/7 HH rating, 6.56M viewers, 2.8/7 A18-49 rating) continues to struggle to hold onto the audience of its lead-in. Dipping to below a 3.0 A18-49 for the first time in a long time. It’ll be interesting to see how The Black Donnelly’s performs in this timeslot a week from now.
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 4.6/7 to 4.3/7
      • Viewers – 7.18M to 6.56M
      • A18-49 – 3.2/8 to 2.8/7

ABC followed in fourth place for the evening with a 5.3/8 household rating, 7.87 million total viewers and a 3.5/9 rating among adults 18-49.

  • 8:00 p.m.: Wife Swap (5.5/8 HH rating, 8.32M viewers, 3.7/9 A18-49 rating) continues to be a strong performer for ABC, increasing across the board to post strong numbers. Most significant is growth of 16% among adults 18-49 over the last three episodes (3.2 to 3.5 to 3.7).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 5.4/8 to 5.5/8

  • 9:00 p.m.: Supernanny (6.5/10 HH rating, 9.74M viewers, 4.1/9 A18-49 rating), like Wife Swap, also turned in solid numbers for ABC. It’s also up significantly among adults 18-49 over the past three episodes (17% from a 3.5 to 3.8 to 4.1).
    • Week-to-week numbers:
      • Households – 6.3/9 to 6.5/10
      • Viewers – 9.55M to 9.74M

  • 10:00 p.m.: What About Brian (3.8/6 HH rating, 5.55M viewers, 2.7/7 A18-49 rating), returning from a one-week hiatus, showed no signs of growth with retention out of its lead-in of 58% among households, 57% among total viewers and 66% among adults 18-49. The one positive was the show has stabilized and its A18-49 rating is strong, given the reduced amount of households watching.

      • Households – to 3.8/6
      • Viewers – to 5.55M
