In a message to fans of The 4400, series creator/executive producer, Scott Peter has announced that USA Network has canceled the long-running original series. Also, it’s being reported that The Dead Zone has been canceled by USA as well.

Here is the post from Peters (available to view on the official message board here):

To all the wonderful fans of The 4400

It’s with great sadness that I pass along to you the information I’ve just received — The 4400 has been cancelled. We’ve had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters. Thank you especially to the folks on the board here whose tireless devotion to the show is nothing short of remarkable. Shout out to Bubba, by the way! I love your posts, man.

I just spoke to Joel and we had a great talk about what we all accomplished and how much we’ll miss our family that is our crew and our cast… and our fans. But at least we got to go out with a bang! I had an awesome time directing the last episode. I think I got to make almost every single cast member cry (on camera). How much fun was that?!

So let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end. Be well and on behalf of all of us at The 4400 — thank you, it’s been a pleasure.

The 4400

After kicking off as the networks most-watched mini-series in 2004, The 4400 has failed to maintain its critical and ratings successes over the past few years and posted series lows this season.

Michael Ausiello of TV Guide is reporting that in addition to The 4400, USA Network also canceled The Dead Zone. From his site:

Next time USA Network gives you a lump of coal for Christmas, be thankful — very thankful — because this year, my moles tell me, what you’re getting is the cancellation of both The Dead Zone and The 4400.

Yep, per multiple sources, the much-discussed Armageddon came early to The Dead Zone — so early, in fact, that the show’s last episode aired… gee, back in September.

Like The 4400, The Dead Zone had also been struggling in the ratings of late.

Hey ok so both shows were canceled fine but the least that could have been done was give them a finale not leave people hanging. That’s why some of us don’t want to even start a new show for fear of getting wrapped up with the storyline and next week it’s canceled. Thanks for nothing.

This SUCKS!!!!! Those were some of the best shows On!! The Dead Zone and 4400 were awsome!!! What kind of staion are you running that u just cancel shows and leaving people hanging!! Even when Charmed ended they had a great ending that left people with a good feeling abouth the show and the station that aired it!! I suppose USA will cancel Psych and Monk too, with bad endings! Not happy!!

I am so tired of cliff-hanger shows. I loved the 4400 and Dead Zone and so did my whole family. This really sucks that they would do this. I will not be watching ANYTHING on USA again… maybe not even anything. Every show I watched has ended in a cliff-hanger and it is not fair to the fans.

I will not be watching Monkor Psych anymore either now for the fear that USA will do it to them.
